Member Discounts vs Fee Adjustments
Are you looking for a way to acknowledge those extra special contributors to your community like first responders, military, employees, teachers, and selfless volunteers? Our Member Discount feature is more than your average fee adjustment and can be set up to provide special discount tiers to these special groups. Join us for the next half an hour to learn how to create and apply this discount setting for your unique users and why it can be a better option for situations than the fee adjustment feature.
When Member Discounts are the Better Option
- Long-term discounts (Teacher of the Year, soccer coach, P&R Board Members, employee discounts, etc)
- When the discount would apply to many different activities & memberships and be cumbersome for staff to add to each item as a fee adjustment
- Organizations where all members receive a discount
- Household where the entire family receives a discount
- When the discount has an expiration date or valid period
- When there is a maximum amount you want to permit over the lifetime of the discount
- When a very limited population of users should receive a discount (need-based, award discount, veterans/first responder/volunteer)
- When different members of the family receive different percentage discounts (i.e. parents receive 10% off and children receive 25% off, or employee receives 100% off and children receive 50% off)
When Fee Adjustment Discounts are the Better Option
- Widespread discounts for members who meet a registration criteria (age, grade, sibling, membership, early bird, etc)
- Short-term discount or discount that applies only to a specific purchase item
- Online purchase discount or promo code discount
- Discounts specific to membership or activity purchase combinations
Using Member Discounts
Designate a Member with a Member Discount

- Search for the household account
- Go to the household's Account Overview
- Scroll down to Add Member Discount
- Inactive or Expired discounts can still be viewed as well

- Select a member or the Entire Household
- If you select a single member, but two or more members get a discount, you will simply repeat this process for each member
- Add the percentage of the discount
- If there is a maximum dollar amount per item for this discount, add it here
- If there is a total maximum dollar amount for the life of this discount, add it in the field
- Add a start date, if applicable
- Teacher of the Year gets a discount from 6/1/26 - 5/30/27
- Great feature for board members with specified terms
- Add an end date, if applicable
- Set the Status to Active
- Add the reason to identify the discount
- For instance, Veteran’s discount, Teacher of the Year, First Responder, soccer volunteer coach
- Click Submit or click Add to create additional discounts

To Set Up a Dollar-Specific Discount
When you want to offer only a dollar-specific discount, use the fields in the following setup. This example will discount any eligible registration by $5 whether is originally costs $5 or $500.
- Set the percentage to 100%
- Set the max discount per item to $5
- You can leave the total discount cap blank
- Finish the date, status, and reason fields
- If you register for a $500 camp, the registrant will only receive a discount of $5 off that registration because of the cap, not the full $500
- Reach out to the support team if you have any questions about this type of setup
- If you register for a $500 camp, the registrant will only receive a discount of $5 off that registration because of the cap, not the full $500
Activate the Member Discount on the Item Settings
A great aspect of Member Discounts is that they won’t automatically apply to every single item available for purchase in your system. You can customize where the membership is valid very easily during setup or through the edit screen.
