The MyRec.com Activate App Request form is the first step to enabling the Progressive Web App (PWA) for your departments public-side page. By submitting this form, you're requesting to activate the install app button and banner that will appear on your public-side page, allowing your community to install your branded app directly to their tablet and/or mobile devices from your public-side page (the app is not available within the app store). There is no cost to activate or use the public-side progressive web app, and it will not raise your annual fee.
Once installed, the public-side app includes back and forth navigation arrows, a refresh button, and button colors that automatically match your department's public-side page for a seamless and convenient, branded experience.
The progressive web app utilizes the mobile version of your public site which customers already access from their devices, therefore meeting the same accessibility standard you are currently meeting. To learn more about our accessibility standards please review the Accessibility Standards article.
Not ready to activate your public-side Progressive Web App yet, but are interested in seeing it in action, check out the demo.myrec.com site on your mobile device or tablet!

It is recommended that you do not submit the MyRec.com Activate App Request form until you are confident with the chosen Short Name and App icon (see below).
Getting Started
Submit the Request Form
To activate the install app feature, you must complete and submit the MyRec.com Activate App Request form. This form collects the essential information needed to set up your app.
Required Information
When you complete the MyRec.com Activate App Request form, you will need to provide the following information:
- Department name
- Department ID #
- Requestor’s name
- Requestor’s email
- Short name (15-character limit; see below)
- App icon (see specifications below)
- Acknowledgment (see below)
Understanding ‘Short Name’
The ‘Short Name’ is the label that appears below your app icon on the home screen of your customer's tablet and/or mobile device after they install your app. This is the name your customers will see displayed beneath the icon on their tablet and/or phone. The short name has a maximum of 15 characters. Choose a name that clearly represents your department and fits within this character limit.
Understanding App Icon

The App Icon is the image that will appear on the home screen of your customer's tablet and/or mobile device after they install your app. This is the visual representation of your department, which customers will see on their tablet and/or phone. Your app icon must be submitted in a one-to-one square ratio (equal width and height).
- We recommend uploading an SVG file if you have one available
- If you don’t have an SVG file, you can upload an image file as long as it maintains the one-to-one square ratio
Important Acknowledgment
By submitting the MyRec.com Activate App Request form, you agree to the following acknowledgment:
If changes are made to the app's Short Name and App Icon, it will not automatically update the name and app icon on a device where someone already added the site to their home screen before the change.
This means customers who install your app before any changes won’t see updates to the short name or icon on their home screen. Only new installations made after the changes will reflect the updated short name and icon. If the app's short name or icon is changed after the app has been installed, the app must be uninstalled and then reinstalled for those changes to take effect.
After Submitting the Request Form
Once you submit the MyRec.com Activate App Request form, the following will occur:
- Submission confirmation
- You will receive an email confirming that your request has been received
- App activation
- Once your app setup is complete, you will receive a second email letting you know that your app is live and ready for your community to use
When Your App Goes Live
When your app is ready, you will receive an email with the following message:
Great news — the setup for your app is complete and ready for your community to use!
Here's what your customers will experience: when they visit your public-side page on their tablet and/or phone, they'll see a banner letting them know they can install the app. Once the customer installs it, your icon & the short name will appear on their tablet's and/or phone's home screen. Within the app, the banner is replaced with back & forth navigation arrows and a refresh button, giving them a smooth, app-like experience right from their home screen.
No app store, no downloads — just a quick, convenient way for your community to register for programs, book facilities, and more.

The installation experience depends on the type of device your customer is using:
Tapping the Install App button automatically adds the app to the user’s home screen—no extra steps needed.

From the MyRec.com screen, tap the Install App button.

Tapping the button will display simple, easy-to-follow instructions that guide the user through adding the app to their home screen.

When the public user taps their icon, they will be directed to your department's page, which will look similar to the image below. The forward and backward navigation arrows mentioned in the email above will be clearly displayed along with a refresh button.
