December Lunch and Learn Recording

Public Announcements

Announcements are useful for low urgency news items like registration windows for major programs. Avoid having announcements year-long because you lose the novelty that attracts the public eye.

An announcement of a sentence or two is effective, while announcements that are paragraphs-long actually lose the public’s attention. You can include those in-depth details on the program description after you’ve captured the user’s attention.

  1. Navigate to the Homepage menu on the left-side navigation bar in the management portal
  2. Click Announcements
  3. Select Add New Announcement in upper left corner
  4. Type in your announcement and set dates
  5. Submit

Once you add the announcement, visit your public side to see how the announcement appears on the public homepage. It will be in a complimentary box in the center area of the page.

Public Alerts

Alerts are useful for high urgency new items like weather cancellations. Like announcements, avoid having alerts year-long because you lose the novelty that attracts the public eye. An alert is typically one or two sentences. You can direct people to their emails, texts, or your social media for more info.

  1. Navigate to the Homepage menu on the left-side navigation bar in the management portal
  2. Click Alerts
  3. Select Add New Alert in upper left corner
  4. Type in your alert and set dates
  5. Submit

Once you add the alert, visit your public side to see how the alert appears on the public homepage. It will be in a contrasting banner at the top of your page.

Remember to remove old announcement and alerts

Use the date fields to keep your announcement and alerts up to date on the public page. Having current and fresh information increases attention and accuracy for your community users, so managing expiration dates is important maintenance.

Read more about these features in our Knowledge Base article.

There are two areas to promote your department sponsors on the public homepage. You may need to contact the Client Services Support team to update your Sponsors and Featured Sponsors feature titles.

On your public homepage, you will notice that there is an area for standard sponsors on the right side of the footer.

You can update these sponsors from the Homepage menu on the management side.

  1. Navigate to the Homepage menu on the left-side navigation bar in the management portal
  2. Click Sponsors
  3. Select Add Sponsor
  4. Enter Description (optional, displays under photo)
  5. Add the URL (will link to photo)
  6. Add photo
  7. Add start/end date
  8. Submit

To feature up to four, special sponsors, for instance a monthly sponsor or a major sponsor for your playground build, you can use Featured Sponsor, which will highlight them in the main section of your public homepage. This area can tell about their sponsorship, if desired.

  1. Navigate to the Homepage menu on the left-side navigation bar in the management portal
  2. Click Sponsors
  3. Select Add Featured Sponsor
  4. Enter Description (optional, displays under photo)
  5. Add the URL (will link to photo)
  6. Add photo
  7. Add start/end date
  8. Submit

Using Quick Icons to Direct Site Traffic

A great way to regulate traffic on your public site and to assist your members in finding offerings without confusion is to have both standard Quick Icons and seasonal Quick Icons in the five additional icons spaces on your public site. Programs and MyAccount are already coded into every site.

For instance, if you have a large offering of senior programs, but your senior members have trouble navigating through the program list, categories, and activity list to find what they need, create Quick Icon on the homepage to take them to the 65+ program that has activities divided into subheading for easy use. This icon can stay on your site year-round.

Seasonally, instead of having to search through the menus for the facilities and reservations for golfing, create a Quick Icon for Tee Times to direct users straight to their purpose without hopping around your site to find it. Once the season has ended, your quick icon can be set to Inactive and disappear from your homepage, while the Ice Rink icon is activated, then the Egg Hunt icon, and so forth.

  1. Navigate to the Administration menu on the left-side navigation bar in the management portal
  2. Click Settings
  3. Select Icon Settings from the tabs at the top
  4. Enter a Title
  5. Add the URL
  6. Add order
  7. Check that the Active checkbox is selected
  8. Submit

When the public user clicks on the tabs across your homepage, customizable navigation options will appear under the tab. These can also be used to feature popular programs, facilities, memberships, or specific activities even.
